On Sunday 23 February 2020 the Bishop of Lugazi Diocese Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza announced four new Parishes to be opened soon. This was during the celebration of the 23rd diocesan anniversary at Mary Queen of Peace Lugazi Cathedral, animated by Nkokonjeru Deanery. In his homily, the Bishop urged the Christians to love one another as Jesus commanded them. He noted that God is love and the origin of love. “We are all gathered here because of the love of Christ. This love has led to the growth of the Kingdom of God in Lugazi Diocese”.

He announced four new parishes namely: St. Charles Lwanga Buguju Parish, St. Anthony Kasangalabi Parish (from Mukono Parish), St. Kizito Namasumbi Parish (from Kyabakadde Parish) to be run by the Spiritan Fathers, and St. Charles Lwanga Kalagala Parish (from Malongwe Parish) to be administered by Salesian fathers. He thanked the congregation for supporting the growth and development of the diocese through their various contributions and urged them to continue with that spirit.
He called upon all the lay leaders to pay 20,000/= annually to the “Twezimbe” fund to assist parishes, sub-parishes, and schools which are still in a deplorable state. Specially he thanked all the institutions in the diocese for their great contribution to the development of the diocese.

In his speech, the minister of state for higher education Hon. J.C Muyingo applauded the diocese for the great contribution towards the development of the country. He thanked the diocese for the excellent academic performance in most of the Catholic-oriented schools. He challenged the big and good-performing schools to twin with the schools that are still very poor such that they move at the same pace. After Mass, there was a march passed by all the parishes and all parishes handed over their contributions (Empagi) to the Bishop. The day was also graced with a Colourful exhibition spearheaded by the Caritas Department. People were educated about the various forms of farming and how to run small-scale businesses to eradicate poverty.
