Vocations in the Diocese

Vocations

The Diocese has several vocations that is to say Missionary Congregation of Men working in the Diocese, Religious congregation of women working in the Diocese and many others.The work of propagating the Word of God to Christians in Lugazi Diocese has been the combined effort of both local and missionary priests as well as religious men and women.

Missionary Congregation of Men working in the Diocese

The work of propagating the Word of God to Christians in Lugazi Diocese has been the combined effort of both local and missionary priests as well as religious men and women. Among the missionary priests we have:

 The Servant of Mary: these came to Uganda in 1987 and they helped to found Kisoga Parish which was opened on January 19, 1989. Their Mother House is in Florence, Italy.

 The Mill Hill Missionaries of the St. Joseph’s Missionary Society based in London. They first came to Uganda in 1895 and they helped to start many parishes in the present day Lugazi Diocese. Today they are running Mbikko parish.

 

 

The Augustinians of the Assumption or the Assumptionists.  These have communities already in Kenya, Tanzania and Congo. In 2014 they opened a new parish of Kyabakadde in Lugazi Diocese.

 The Camillian fathers who are working in Nyenga Hospital. Their major charism is caring for the sick and the suffering; and they regard the hospital as a “House of God” where the voices of the sick are regarded as music from heaven.

 The Consolata Fathers, though not strictly of Lugazi Diocese, they have a formation house in Kiwanga sub-parish in Namilyango Parish. They also help out in the pastoral ministry, around Kiwanga Sub-parish.

 

 

Religious congregation of women working in the Diocese

The Little Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi who are an indigenous religious order of women founded in Uganda by the late Servant of God, Mother Kevin, a Franciscan Missionary Sister from Ireland. The congregation was founded in 1923 and it has its mother house at Nkokonjeru. These sisters are involved mainly in education and in health services. They are also running a providence home for the handicapped in Nkokonjeru.

 The Good Samaritan Sisters working at Ttakajjunge in Mukono Parish. It is a local congregation founded by the late Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga in 1978 and they have their mother house at Nalukolongo in Kampala. They are mainly involved in health services, and care for the poor, the needy and the suffering. They are running a dispensary, a vocational school, and a formation house at Ttakajjunge.

 The Mantellate Sisters, Servants of Mary are found in Kisoga Parish where they run a dispensary and take care of a primary school. They are based in Italy and they opened their house in Kisoga Parish in 2000 A.D. They are also involved in pastoral work, social work and looking after orphaned children.

 The Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa are based in London. They were founded by Mother Kevin in 1903 to carry out missionary work in Africa. They are a sister congregation to the Little Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi also founded by Mother Kevin in 1923. They are presently based in Mbikko parish doing some Social Work.

 

 The Sacred Heart Sisters are found in Mbikko. They are very active in the education sector and presently they are in charge of St. Bernadette Primary School Nakibizzi. They also have a formation house in Mbikko.The Missionary Sisters of Queen of the Apostles are found in Malongwe Parish. Their Mother House is in Vienna – Austria. They came to Lugazi Diocese in 2007 and they are mainly involved in educational, social and health services.

 The Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary are found in St. Paul Parish Mukono , in the sub-parish of Buguju. They serve the poor and those with disabilities.

 Daughters of Mary (Bwanda). They serve in Buvuma Parish. They run a primary a nursery and Primary school. They also provide health services, carry out social work and farming.

Sisters of the Blessed Virgin.  They are found in Kabimbiri Parish. They provide education services and carry out social work.

Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS). They are found in Lugazi Parish. They are involved in education, support people with prayer and meditation and perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Perpetual Adorers of the Most Blessed Sacrament. They are found in Kangulumira Parish. They are contemplative.
