Pilgrims Arrive at Namugongo in Joyful Celebration of Faith

With hearts full of gratitude and spiritual fulfillment, the foot pilgrims from St. Kaggwa Parish in Bushenyi, under the Mbarara Archdiocese, have arrived safely at the Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine in Namugongo. Their arrival marks a moment of great joy as they join thousands of others ahead of the Martyrs Day celebration on June 3, 2025, led by Lugazi Diocese.

After weeks on foot, these pilgrims braved the elements in a journey of sacrifice and faith, inspired by the legacy of the 22 Catholic martyrs who gave their lives for Christ. Their arrival has added vibrancy to the holy grounds as the faithful prepare to commemorate one of the most significant events in Uganda’s Christian history.

Gulu Pilgrims Reach Nakasongola in Journey of Devotion

Foot pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Gulu are currently in Nakasongola District, steadily advancing in their spiritual pilgrimage to Namugongo Shrine. The faithful began their journey at dawn on May 19, 2025, from St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Gulu, and have since covered hundreds of kilometers through prayer and perseverance.

Their march is a testament to the living faith of Northern Uganda, as they unite with pilgrims from across the country in honoring the courage and sacrifice of the Uganda Martyrs. The journey strengthens their spiritual bond and renews their commitment to the teachings of Christ.

3. Kabale Diocese Pilgrims Begin 400km Pilgrimage

Kabale Diocese Pilgrims Set Off After Spiritual Blessing at Rushoroza

Over 230 foot pilgrims from Kabale Diocese have begun their ten-day trek to Namugongo after gathering at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral. Representing the districts of Kisoro, Rubanda, Kabale, and Rukiga, these pilgrims received a special Mass of Blessing from Fr. Bruno Byomuhangi, Director of the Lay Apostolate Commission.

The pilgrims began their 400km journey at 3:00 AM, full of spiritual energy and devotion. Their pilgrimage is a powerful display of unity, faith, and resilience as they prepare to celebrate Martyrs Day 2025, animated this year by Lugazi Diocese.

As they walk in the footsteps of the martyrs, we pray for their protection, strength, and renewal along the way.
