A Historic Day of Faith, Dedication, and Renewal – 7th December 2025

The Christian community of Lugazi Diocese gathered in great joy as St. Francis Makata, formerly a Sub-Parish of Namagunga Parish, was officially elevated to a Diocesan Prayer Center under the patronage of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary. The event was graced by His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala, who presided over the colourful celebration marked by prayer, thanksgiving, and profound unity.

This historic day featured several key moments:
• The opening and blessing of the newly constructed Church
• The blessing of the beautiful Marian grotto
• The installation of the priest in-charge
• The blessing of the new priests’ residence

“This is the House of God—A Gift Given Back to Him” – Archbishop Ssemogerere

In his homily, Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere expressed deep gratitude to God for the gift of a new Prayer Center for Lugazi Diocese. He commended the Ordinary of Lugazi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza, for his pastoral guidance and all people of goodwill for their unwavering generosity.

In a special way, he thanked Captain Roy Zziwa and his wife Daisy, whose remarkable generosity made the construction of the magnificent Church possible. He encouraged the Christians of Lugazi Diocese to fully utilize the prayer center as a place of spiritual nourishment, healing, and renewal.

The Archbishop also made a pastoral appeal to the faithful of Makata:

“Turn to Jesus. Do not fall into the temptations of witchcraft. Let this place be a home of true faith, peace, and conversion.”

The New Priest In Charge

A New Shepherd for Makata: Rev. Fr. Abooki Installed

Representing the Diocesan Bishop, the Vicar General of Lugazi Diocese, Msgr. Dr. Richard Kayondo, installed Rev. Fr. Abooki Dominic Savio as the priest in-charge of the new Prayer Center. Fr. Abooki, formerly the Spiritual Director at St. Joseph Nyenga Minor Seminary, received the keys to the center and was officially commissioned for ministry.

Msgr. Kayondo emphasized that the Prayer Center, while located under Namuyenje Parish, will operate as the central home of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement (CCR) in Lugazi Diocese. He encouraged all Christians to make full use of this sanctuary of prayer, retreat, and spiritual revival.

Fr. Abooki, in his remarks, thanked God for entrusting him with this mission and called on the faithful to walk with him:

“Let us build this Prayer Center together. Support, pray, and work with me as we grow this sacred place.”

Blessing of the Church

Lord God, we bless and dedicate this chapel to Your glory, that it may be a sacred place of prayer, worship, and encounter with Your presence. May all who enter here receive Your peace, grace, and spiritual renewal through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessing of the Grotto

Lord God, we bless this Marian Grotto dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, that it may be a place of prayer, reflection, and devotion for all who come here seeking Your grace. Through the loving intercession of the Mother of Your Son, may all who pray here grow in faith, hope, and love. Amen.

Installing of The Rector

Lord God, bless Your servant who is entrusted with the care of this prayer center; grant him wisdom, humility, and a shepherd’s heart to guide Your people in faith and holiness. May his ministry bear abundant fruit as he serves Your Church with dedication and love, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
