On Tuesday, the faithful of Lugazi Diocese gathered in unity for the Chrism Mass, a deeply significant celebration in the life of the Catholic Church, presided over by the Bishop. This sacred liturgy, held during Holy Week, stands as one of the most important moments of spiritual renewal for both clergy and laity.
The Chrism Mass is profoundly meaningful because it is often referred to as the Day of the Priesthood and the Eucharist. On this day, priests renew their sacred promises made at ordination, reaffirming their commitment to serve God and His people with faithfulness and dedication. It is also a powerful reminder of the central place of the Eucharist in the life of the Church.
A key highlight of the celebration was the blessing of the Holy Oils:
- The Oil of the Sick, used for healing
- The Oil of Catechumens, used during baptism preparation
- The Sacred Chrism, used in Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders, and the dedication of churches
Another significant moment during the Mass was the formal reception of seven candidates into serious candidacy for priesthood. This step marks a deeper commitment in their journey of formation, as they continue discerning their call to serve the Church as future priests.
In his homily, the Bishop emphasized the importance of active participation in Holy Week, highlighting the four great days from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday:
- Holy Thursday
- Good Friday
- Holy Saturday
- Easter Sunday
He reminded the faithful that these sacred days carry unique and profound blessings, calling on all Christians to fully engage in prayer, reflection, and liturgical celebrations.
The event was truly a great moment of unity and renewal for the Diocese—bringing together priests, religious, and lay faithful in one spirit of worship and thanksgiving.
As the Church journeys through Holy Week, the Chrism Mass stands as a powerful sign of:
- Unity between the Bishop and his priests
- Renewal of priestly mission
- The living presence of Christ in the Sacraments
