In Memoriam \u2013 Honouring the Faithful Departed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Diocese lovingly remembers and honours all the faithful departed\u2014priests, religious, and lay members\u2014who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith. This memorial page is dedicated to preserving their legacy, celebrating their service to God and the Church, and inviting the Christian community to keep their memory alive through prayer. In the spirit of the Catholic tradition, we commend their souls to the mercy of God, trusting in the promise of eternal life and the communion of saints that unites us all in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Catholics, we continue to pray for the faithful departed, especially through the Holy Mass, which is the most powerful prayer for the dead. We encourage the faithful to offer prayers such as: \u201cEternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.\u201d<\/em> Through prayer, acts of charity, and remembrance, we remain spiritually connected with our departed brothers and sisters, asking God to grant them eternal joy in His presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key moments in the Church\u2019s calendar remind us in a special way to pray for the dead, most notably the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls\u2019 Day)<\/strong> on 2nd November each year. During this time, the Church invites all the faithful to offer Masses, prayers, and sacrifices for the souls in purgatory. Additionally, anniversaries of death, funeral memorials, and parish remembrance days provide opportunities for families and communities to gather in prayer, reflect on the lives of the departed, and renew hope in the resurrection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Memoriam: Rev. Fr. Mukasa Emmanuel <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Diocese remembers with gratitude the life and priestly ministry of Rev. Fr. Mukasa<\/strong>, who faithfully served the Church, notably as Vice Rector of St. Joseph\u2019s Seminary, Nyenga<\/strong>. During his time at the seminary, he played a vital role in the formation of future priests<\/strong>, Emmanuel guiding seminarians with dedication, wisdom, and a deep commitment to spiritual and academic excellence. His service contributed significantly to nurturing vocations and strengthening the foundation of priestly life in the Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rev. Fr. Mukasa will be remembered for his humility, pastoral zeal, and unwavering devotion to God\u2019s people. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched\u2014especially the priests he helped form\u2014who continue to serve the Church today. As a Diocese, we commend his soul to the mercy of God and invite all the faithful to pray for his eternal rest: \u201cEternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

R<\/strong>ev. Fr. Mukasa was born on [insert date of birth], ordained a priest on [insert date of ordination], and faithfully served the Church until his passing on [insert date of death]. His funeral rites were held with solemnity at St Mary’s Seminary Kisubi , and he was laid to rest at Kisubi Minor Seminary Libo where the faithful continue to honor his memory and pray for the repose of his soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Memoriam: Rev. Fr. Anthony Gesuula<\/strong>  <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is with deep sorrow and reverence that we announce the passing of Rev. Fr. Anthony Gesuula<\/strong>, the former Treasurer of the Diocese of Lugazi, a devoted servant of God who dedicated his life to the Church, faithful stewardship, and the advancement of diocesan mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fr. Gesuula served the Diocese of Lugazi with unwavering commitment, integrity, and humility. As Treasurer, he played a critical role in strengthening financial accountability, supporting diocesan development programs, and ensuring responsible management of Church resources. His work contributed significantly to the growth and stability of the diocese and its pastoral mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond his administrative service, Fr. Gesuula was known as a humble priest, a compassionate pastor, and a man of prayer who deeply loved his vocation. He was a mentor to many, a counselor to the faithful, and a faithful witness to the Gospel values of service, simplicity, and sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the systems he helped build, and the faith community he strengthened within the Lugazi Diocese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We give thanks to God for his life and ministry, and we pray that the Lord, whom he served faithfully, may grant him eternal rest and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Died at Nsambya Hospital 26th April 2026, Burial was done on 27th April 2026 at Namagunga Parish<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Easter Tribute to the Late Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this sacred season of Easter\u2014when we celebrate the victory of life over death\u2014we join together as the Church in Lugazi Diocese to remember with deep faith and gratitude the life of Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga<\/strong>, whose passing we commemorate five years on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Easter reminds us that death is not the end, but the gateway to eternal life. It is in this hope of the Resurrection that we honor Archbishop Lwanga, a devoted shepherd who gave his life in faithful service to God and His people. On behalf of the Bishop of Lugazi Diocese, the clergy, religious, and all the lay faithful, we pay tribute to a man whose legacy continues to shine brightly in the Church in Uganda and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Archbishop Lwanga will be remembered for his:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Deep faith and unwavering commitment to the Gospel<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Courageous leadership in promoting justice, peace, and moral integrity<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n

  • Strong voice in national life<\/strong>, guiding society with truth and compassion<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Passion for unity within the Church<\/strong>, fostering collaboration among clergy and laity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    His ministry was marked by humility, simplicity, and a profound love for the Eucharist\u2014the center of Christian life. He tirelessly worked to strengthen faith communities, promote evangelization, and uphold the dignity of every person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Even in his passing, his witness continues to inspire bishops, priests, religious, and the laity to remain steadfast in faith and committed to service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As we celebrate the risen Christ, we are reminded of Archbishop Lwanga\u2019s own life\u2014a life poured out in service, now entrusted to the mercy of God. His journey reflects the promise of Easter: that those who serve the Lord faithfully will share in His glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We therefore call upon all the faithful to:; (1) Continue living out the values he stood for, Promote peace, justice, and unity in our communities ,Deepen our participation in the life of the Church<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    May his legacy remain a guiding light for generations to come. May the Risen Lord grant eternal rest to His faithful servant,<\/strong>
